Teddy Geiger
Teddy Geiger (born John Theodore Geiger II on September 16, 1988) is an American singer-songwrite and occasional actor. He is also known to play the guitar, bass, piano, drums and trombone .
Geiger was born in Buffalo, New York, and later moved to Rochester, New York. He wrote his first song at the age of 10. He attended McQuaid Jesuit High School through his junior year, after which he transferred to Pittsford Sutherland High School and graduated through a tutoring program with the class of 2006. His first band was formed in 2005 under the name “Faction”. This band played many shows at several venues in Rochester, New York, winning battle of the bands at the Water Street Music Hall. The band was headlined by Geiger’s lyrics, vocals, guitar and keyboard. Other band members included drummer Ben Harmon, Lead guitarist John Ryan, and bassist Daniel Beale. The band separated in early 2005, following Geiger’s signing with Columbia Records. Today the band’s closest fans await a reunion. It is noted that the band’s true significance resided not only in Geiger’s musical talent but the talent of John Ryan and the genius wonder-boy drummer that is Benny Harmon. Teddy Geiger was first seen in national media as a finalist in VH1′s In Search of the Partridge Family, Geiger earned instant “credibility” by touring with Hilary Duff, serving as the opening act on her summer 2005 Still Most Wanted tour. His first single, “For You I Will (Confidence)”, was officially released in February 2006. The song received positive reviews; it was called “sweetly romantic” and said to contain “sophisticated lyrics”. His debut album, Underage Thinking, was released on March 21, 2006, and peaked at number eight (#8) in the US Billboard 200 albums chart. Geiger also acted in a small role on the flop series Love Monkey, which originally aired on CBS and was later moved to VH1. He played a young up-and-coming musician Wayne Jensen, starring alongside Tom Cavanagh and Jason Priestley. His song “For You I Will (Confidence)” was featured as the theme to the show on the later episodes. He saw his record sales increase with exposure on the morning and evening talk show television circuit. He was also heavily pushed in the Rochester area by local music critic Jeff Spevak, to whom he is related.
His debut single “For You I Will (Confidence)” was nominated for “Best Love Song” in the 2006 Teen Choice Awards. He released a second single, “These Walls”, which began receiving steady radio airplay in September 2006 and was later released as a music video. In July 2006, it was announced that Geiger would be on the cover of Seventeen magazine in the fall. Appearing on the November 2006 issue, Geiger became the first male on the cover of the magazine in five years.
His debut album Underage Thinking won the award for ‘Best Album of the Year’ at the annual MusiqTone MusiqAwards. He was also nominated for ‘New Artist of the Year’ but lost to Panic at the Disco. Geiger also received an AVMA for the “highly coveted” Brand Spankin’ New Artist in 2007. He also made his feature-film debut in The Rocker, which stars Emma Stone, Christina Applegate, Josh Gad, and Rainn Wilson. The movie was released in theatres on August 20, 2008.
In 2008, Geiger separated from Columbia Records. Since early 2009, Teddy has been focusing on writing and recording music back home where it all began. Currently he is releasing songs on his website, www.teddygeiger.com
